Heavy-Duty Compressor for Scale Modeling
I’ve had the MAX AK-HL1310E sitting around for a while, but I finally fired it up to paint my 5cm Flak 41 and QUAD Gun Tractor. Strictly speaking, this is a high-pressure compressor built for power tools like nail guns, not airbrushing.
Previously, I used the WAVE 517, which is known for being quiet. However, it had to run constantly, and the low-frequency hum made it unsuitable for late-night sessions. Being an oil-based model, it was also a pain—maintenance was a hassle, and the fatal flaw was oil mist getting into the airflow. I eventually sold it after using it as a tank filler for a bit.
When I got back into modeling, I looked at hobby-grade compressors but found their performance-to-price ratio underwhelming. That’s why I went with the AK-HL1310E. I had to customize it with a dedicated regulator and convert my airbrush hoses to quick-connect couplers, but it was worth it.
Performance-wise, it’s obviously overkill. I’m okay with that since I might use air tools in the future, but the noise is definitely there. That said, it’s leagues better than my old PUMA (SK11) SR102. That thing was deafeningly loud and only reached 1MPa despite its bulk.
The AK-HL1310E is loud, but with an anti-vibration mat, the noise and shaking are manageable. The sound profile is also tuned to be less grating than the SR102. The real kicker is the tank: it’s compact but holds a massive 4.4MPa. If I fill it up during the day, I can finish an entire model at night in complete silence.
Compared to this, most hobby compressors feel like toys. If your environment allows for it, I highly recommend going the professional route.

塗装用にMAXのAK-HL1310Eを購入していましたが、ずっと使わず放置・・
今回、5cm flak41とQUAD gun tractorの塗装で運用開始してみました。
このコンプレッサーは本来、釘打機のようなエア工具用です。
以前は静音性に優れるWAVE517という機材を使用していました。
これはこれで音が静かなのですが、常時稼働させておかなければならず、重低音とも相まって夜間の使用に向きませんでした・・
また、オイル式ということでオイル捕集用のトラップの設置やオイル交換のメンテナンスも必須で、何よりエアにオイルが混じるという致命的な欠陥を抱えており、しばらくエアタンク充填用に使用した後は売却してしまいました・・
模型製作再開にあたり、新規コンプレッサー導入を検討していましたが、模型用のコンプレッサーはどれも値段の割に性能が低く感じ、現場用のコンプレッサーはどうかと考え、AK-HL1310E購入したのです。
これはこれで、模型塗装用にレギュレーターを準備したり、ハンドピースのチューブをエアカプラ式にしたりする必要がありました。
実際に運用した感想ですが、当然オーバースペックです。
将来的なエア工具の使用も視野に入れているので、それはそれで良いのですが、やはり音がデカい・・
が、以前使っていたPUMA（SK11）SR102と比較し、全然良いです。
SR102はかなりの爆音で、しかもデカい割にタンク圧力は1MPAで本機と比較して低容量・・
他方、AK-HL1310Eは音はデカいものの、防振マットを敷くことで振動や騒音はかなり抑えらます。
また、不快な音域を低減させた仕様ということで、確かにSR102と比較して不快さはそこまで感じません。
また、タンクは小型な割に最大圧力4.4mpaで充填できます。
明るいうちにエア重点を済ませておけば、模型一個くらいは夜間の完全無音塗装を実現出来ます。
これと比較すると、ホビー用のコンプレッサーはどれもカスです。
使用環境が許せば、超オススメといえます。
